Prayer for Peace
Prayer for Peace
The deceased victims of war in Gaza, Ukraine, Israel & Russia weigh heavy on our hearts, as does the continued conflict. We want the fighting and loss of life to stop but know there is little we can do. What we can do though is pray.
Tomorrow, Friday the 3rd of November, our parish will dedicate itself to prayer for those who have died, for the conflicts to end and that peace will be restored. This time of prayer will start with Mass at 11:15am Friday morning and will finish at 9am Mass Saturday. The Church will remain open during this time.
You are asked to make a commitment to come to St Joseph’s Church during this time and to pray for this intention. You can do this as individuals, as a family or a group. There will be some prayer resources available, or you may want to pray the rosary or the stations of the cross. The Indian community will be there from 6-8pm and individuals at other various times. If any other groups would like to advertise a time they will be there please let me know.
While it would be good if you can come to the church to pray, if this is difficult for you, please consider praying at home. Prayer knows no boundaries and God will bless our communal prayer. If you are a night owl and can make a commitment in the early hours of the morning, please consider doing so. This will mean there will be a presence in the Church all the time. We will have a peace candle in the Church and hope to keep it alight for the period we are dedicating to this Prayer for Peace.

Sunday 31 October 2021 ‐ Today is Mission Sunday
‘We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard’ Acts 4:20
It is Mission Month, and Mission Sunday here in New Zealand on 31st October. It usually falls on the penultimate Sunday of October however because of COVID and the Labour day weekend, we are “buying” time. These are uncertain times. Mission Sunday is being celebrated in every Catholic parish around the world! It supports missionaries who work alongside communities that are poor or in need, regardless of their background or belief. By supporting Missio-NZ, the Pope’s charity for world mission in NZ, you will help missionaries share the love of Christ with those most in need. With all gratitude, thank you very much for your support for the Mission, both your prayers and financial gifts to this very important collection which will sustain the future of our Church. Please call (09) 489 6549 (office hours) or visit Missio-NZ’s website www.missio.nz/donate to give a single gift. If you want to set up a regular weekly/monthly donation, please use MISSIO-NZ Account ANZ 06 0411 0021447 30.

Pope Francis proclaims “Year of St Joseph”
With the Apostolic Letter “Patris corde” (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis recalls the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To mark the occasion, the Holy Father has proclaimed a “Year of Saint Joseph”.
“With a father’s heart: that is how Joseph
loved Jesus…”
(Patris Corde; pg.1, Pope Francis)
Prayer to St Joseph
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage,
and defend us from every evil.
Amen
